Fast More, Feast More
I know I complain about social media on occasion, but it can be amazingly efficient at connecting me (and others) with really interesting, smart and talented individuals. Case in point, I met Amy on Facebook through a mutual friend of ours. She posts fantastic thoughts on her page revolving around Fasting and Feasting.
Here are some of her latest posts:
I need to fast from suspicion and feast on truth.
I need to fast from bitterness and feast on forgiveness.
And my current favorite…
I need to fast from idle gossip and feast on purposeful silence.
I LOVE THIS!
(Thank you Amy for allowing me to share your wisdom and insight in this musing.)
Such a simple, small, easy-to-remember concept which involves deep introspective thought.
These got me thinking about what I should fast and feast on. The first thoughts that come to mind are:
* I need to fast from toxic, negative, self-righteous people and feast on open-minded, considerate, respectful people.
* I need to fast from quick assumptions and feast on allowing space in my brain to simply mull.
* I need to fast from the need to be right and feast on the real matter at hand.
* I need to fast from gossip and feast on sharing awesome things my friends are experiencing.
I’m also going to change the wording from I “need” to I’m “going to.” Oh what fun we will have if you all share your own thoughts on fasting and feasting. Simply fill in the blanks: I’m going to fast on ________ and feast on ______.
Thank you to my friend Kelli and my new friend Amy (and all your other wonderful friends I haven’t met yet.) This is going to be fun……
I’m going to fast on my expectations and feast on God’s perfect timing
I’m going to fast from hopelessness and feast on hope
I am going to fast on being lazy and feast on being more productive!
I’m going to fast on self-doubt and feast on self-love
I’m going to fast on news and current affairs and feast on music that feeds the soul
I’m going to fast on energy-zappers and feast on positive vibes
I’m going to fast on unhealthy, processed foods and feast on walks on this beautiful planet
I’m going to fast on running my mouth and feast on listening and learning from others
I’m going to fast on fear and feast on fearlessness
I am going to fast on critical thinking and feast on compassion. Waking up intentional with a plan of “what can I do for you today”. Opening a door, giving a smile or a hug. Sharing encouraging words of strength and hope.
What an incredible message and challenge.
I need to fast from “people pleasing” and feast on “service that comes from a genuine heart”.
I need to fast from “worry” and feast on “meditation and prayer”.
I need to fast from “being busy” and feast on “intentionality”.
Wow! This is good!
I am feasting on abundance and gratitude and fasting on scarcity and anxiety.
I am going to fast on obsessing about my struggles and feast on the possibilities of new adventures/breakthroughs. I am going to fast on giving too much credence to the opinions of acquaintances and feast on the appreciation of my true inner circle. I am going to fast on worry and feast on trust. I am going to fast on my constant attachment to plans and feast on the greatness that can come from interruptions.
I will fast on selfishness and feast on altruism.
I love that word,,, altruism. I aspire to be an altruistic coach!
Wow, all the responses are so inspiring! I am currently fasting on all negative people, thoughts and behavior and I am feasting on everything that is positive and good. It is so much fun! However, I will also add to my current fast/feast by fasting on my fears and feasting on the courage to move forward into the unknown and unfamiliar.
This is powe full stuff. I love it. Thanks for sharing. And I agree…. all of the responses are amazing and though provoking, thank you ALL for lending your voice to this discussion
This is very specific to my work week ahead but:
I am going to fast on “worrying about the success of a project” and feast on “doing the best quality work I can do”
Sounds like a solid actionable plan. Keep us posted!
