Fast More, Feast More

Fast More, Feast More

I know I complain about social media on occasion, but it can be amazingly efficient at connecting me (and others) with really interesting, smart and talented individuals. Case in point, I met Amy on Facebook through a mutual friend of ours. She posts fantastic thoughts on her page revolving around Fasting and Feasting.

Here are some of her latest posts:

I need to fast from suspicion and feast on truth.

I need to fast from bitterness and feast on forgiveness.

And my current favorite…

I need to fast from idle gossip and feast on purposeful silence.

I LOVE THIS!

(Thank you Amy for allowing me to share your wisdom and insight in this musing.)

Such a simple, small, easy-to-remember concept which involves deep introspective thought.

These got me thinking about what I should fast and feast on. The first thoughts that come to mind are:

* I need to fast from toxic, negative, self-righteous people and feast on open-minded, considerate, respectful people.

* I need to fast from quick assumptions and feast on allowing space in my brain to simply mull.

* I need to fast from the need to be right and feast on the real matter at hand.

* I need to fast from gossip and feast on sharing awesome things my friends are experiencing.

I’m also going to change the wording from I “need” to I’m “going to.” Oh what fun we will have if you all share your own thoughts on fasting and feasting. Simply fill in the blanks: I’m going to fast on ________ and feast on ______.

Thank you to my friend Kelli and my new friend Amy (and all your other wonderful friends I haven’t met yet.) This is going to be fun……

I’m going to fast on rumors and feast on real truth. Rumors and gossip are exhausting and can be hurtful to others,

I’m also going to fast on “I want to” and feast on “I’m going to.” Life is short, and it’s time to make things happen!

I’d love to hear more about this. It’s so easy, at least for me, to not face something hard, even when I know it will build character. I hope you share an example

Hi Kelli, My most profound example has to do with being recently introduced to Geo-Policitcs by someone who is incredibly experienced in the field. This new perspective has really challenged what I thought was the TRUTH. It wasn’t just the unknown, it was not knowing what I didn’t know. The difficult part is learning facts that don’t FEEL good and not letting your feelings get in the way of accepting them . Escaping this would mean living in the world as I wish it to be, facing it means living in the world we actually have. It comes full circle… Read more »

Yeah, politics are tricky, but I so commend you on trying to understand more for your daughter! The world has changed a lot in our lifetime, hasn’t it? I am going through a health thing right now that should have been under control by now but there have been a few issues so it’ll be a few more months. It’s frustrating but it’s not life threatening. I’m also realizing that I’m not as confident as I used to be. I shy away from stuff that I used to look in the eye and take on. I’m missing that fire that… Read more »

I am not sure if you are familiar with Coach Wooden’s wisdom but when it comes to confidence I always recall what he said. He believed we are not better or worse than anyone else, but that we are just as good as everyone else.

I hope it helps you to take things on 🙂
