Bloopers & Blunders: Join the Squad

Bloopers & Blunders: Join the Squad

With all the strife we are encountering in the world and in our country, I’m in need for a little comic relief. Bloopers and blunders. We all have them. The “I Love Lucy” episodes in our life that couldn’t have been more awkward or comedic if we’d tried to write the script. Here’s one of mine… and yes, there are many…

We had just returned to Los Angeles from competing in Arizona. I received a lovely e-mail from a gymnastics fan named Jordan. The following is our e-mail exchange:

Jordan: Congratulations on a great meet Miss Val. I’m a huge UCLA Gymnastics fan. I love your choreography… (Jordan went on to give an extremely knowledgable and impressive critique of our team’s floor ex routines.)

Me: Wow! You sure know your stuff. Thank you for the kind note.

Jordan: I have a question, you and your coaching staff always seem so fit. What do you do to stay in such great shape? I’ve always struggled with my weight and keep looking for the spark and inspiration to get in better shape. My weight has triggered depression and insecurities in me for years.

Me: Jordan, you don’t have to lose one pound to feel great about yourself. You get up tomorrow morning and put on a hot pair of kicky heels, your favorite dress, some sassy jewelry, and strut your stuff knowing that you are awesome just the way you are!

Jordan: Wow, this is rather awkward Miss Val. You think I’m a girl don’t you? I’m not, I’m a guy.

Palm slap

Jordan and I have since become friends and laugh about this every time we meet in Arizona.

OK, I’ve shared ONE of my blunders. In the spirit of Lucille Ball… please share one of your all-time funniest blunders with the Miss Val Geek Squad.

I have a blooper. It happened about 10 years ago when I was traveling in Europe. I was visiting the Palace of Versallies and it was extra crowded that day because it had been closed the day before for safety reasons since there were protests going on in Paris. We had a guided tour and then some time on our own. I was coming down this lovely, grand staircase taking in the whole atmosphere. It was amazing to be in a place that is steeped in so much history. I got part way down the staircase and then slipped and… Read more »

You totally pulled a Rachel! ? No, we’ve never met. I just got very curious when you said you design clothes. I make jewelry. Fine jewelry, bridge jewelry, and upcycled. I’d love to see some of your stuff. Here’s my jewelry page:

Beautiful! Happy to hear you make a living being creative. I have been out of the fashion industry for about a year now and when I worked it was always for a company so I don’t have a website.
Love your brass elephant charm necklace ?

Thank you so much!! This is actually a side hobby that I’ve been slowly turning into a side business. Miss Val has been encouraging me because it’s kind of scary to just go for it but I’m going to do it anyways!

And just like that I made another blunder…..I meant to say “various”, not “varies” 🙂

Thank goodness for bloopers! They make life much more fun. I have a good one. It was my first week in my new job as a designer for a clothing company. After a quick restroom stop I went on with my business stopping by varies offices and finally headed to the sample room where about thirty sample makers were sitting at their sewing machines. As I made my way down the isle between the machines one of the ladies ran up to me with a worried look on her face. Turns out I accidentally tucked the back of my dress… Read more »

Haha! That’s pretty good too :). I was mortified, of course, but then remembered that “Friends” episode where Rachael’s breast pops out at a restaurant. As she tells the story Monica looks horrified, to which Rachael says “it’s alright, I have nice boobs”. I went with the same logic ?

Hahahahaha!! That’s great! Did you see the episode when Rachel was a bridesmaid at her ex-fiancé’ & ex-best friend’s wedding? She did the exact same thing you did! Here’s the clip

I have seen them all, how did I not think of that one? Yes, I pulled off the exact same thing as Rachael. Not sure what’s worse, doing this at work or at a wedding.

Kelli,
Have we ever met?

Here’s another one. I had been working at the Rehab hospital for only a few weeks and I was trying to make a great first impression. We had just had an inservice on explaining what we were doing & why to the patients. Our director walked into the gym with the regional director and another bigwig. I was working with a man recovering from a broken hip. He was cognitively slow and at times said inappropriate things but it was never really offensive because it was almost child like and to him they were just innocent questions and he could… Read more »

Thank you Amy, I am that sister-in-law. Her mother-law is 91 years of age & has great skin, we do have good skin here in the south, it’s the humidity.

I will always remember meeting your sister-in-law, I believe it was at UGA. I had misunderstood one of the parents in all the noise and thought they said mother-in-law-law. You look wonderful and she looks wonderful so, I was really wanting to know the skin regimen secrets but didn’t get past the big laugh at my confusion. I get a kick out of it every time I go by that restaurant.

I was working at a rehab hospital, our hospitalist was on vacation so one of his partners was filling in. One of my coworkers said that the new doctor was hot and I should stroll past the nurses station to get a look. I recognized him immediately, he was a hospitalist at the acute hospital I had worked at previously and he was HOT! My friend started giving me a hard time, telling me Dr. McDreamy didn’t have a ring on, I’m single now, better snag McDreamy before someone else does. A few hours later I needed to ask him… Read more »

Hi Val, My blunder was when I was introducing my friend to the Pastor of a church where we were attending a women’s conference, I totally forgot her name. If that wasn’t embarrassing enough, as I stammered to remember so I could introduce her, I gave her a name! And it wasn’t her name! She looked at me with a confused expression and then reintroduced herself saying “otherwise known as” and gave her real name. I was soooo embarrassed! I apologized to her and thankfully we all laughed about it!!

What a wonderful idea for a musing! We’ve all had those moments! In high school, carpooling with my boyfriend and a few friends, a parent who hadn’t dropped us off before was driving. We chatted with each other for the ten minutes it took to get close to my house when the parent asked where I lived. I told him, “Keep going up to the top of the hill and take a right.” My boyfriend stared at me for a moment, laughed, and said, “She’s kidding, it’s a left.” “I think I know where I live!” I snorted back. “I… Read more »

Lol! I hate it when someone is giving me direction using north, south, east, west. Hey, PAC-12 championships are at Stanford this year. Are you going? I wonder when tickets go on sale?
